Rams Vs. Seahawks Score Prediction, Spread, Breakdown

The NFL season ends for at least one team Sunday when the Los Angeles Rams travel up to Seattle to face the Seahawks.

The 5-11 Rams already have the most losses by a defending Super Bowl champion, and a loss will give them the worst record ever for a team coming off a Super Bowl win.

Enough about that.

Seattle is 8-8 and currently sitting seventh in the NFC playoffs, but they don’t completely control their own fate. Seattle needs to win (natch) and then sit back and wait for the outcome of the Sunday night game between the Lions and Packers. The Seahawks are big Detroit fans. Seattle has the tiebreaker over the Lions, so they want them to win so they both finish 9-8, but not the Packers. The Seahawks have lost three of their last four but beat the Rams in a close one back in Week 13.

This is also the Bobby Wagner Return game for the Rams linebacker, playing his first game in Seattle since coming to the Rams and is this the last time we see Baker Mayfield in a Rams jersey?

How To Watch

Kickoff: 1:25 p.m. local time

Screens: Fox and the FoxSports app.

Announcers: Kevin Kugler and Mark Sanchez. I like this group. Sanchez does a good job.

What Do The Oddsmakers Say?

Both Caesars and the folks at BetMGM have the Seahawks as six-point favorites at home and the over/under total set at 41.5. The Seahawks are still on the board at Caesars to win the Super Bowl, but way, way back at +15000 along with the Patriots and Titans.

Seattle QB Geno Smith is No. 2 on the board to win Comeback Player of the Year (+175) at Caesars with 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey first. Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III is 64 yards away from 1,000 and is the favorite to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

Key Numbers – Spread Talking

The Rams have now been underdogs in eight straight games. They are 5-10-1 against the spread this year, while Seattle is 7-9 against the spread.

Looking for a trend? Seattle is just 1-4 against the spread in their last five games. The Rams are 3-2. Interesting that when the game was in L.A. five weeks ago the Seahawks were seven-point favorites. That shows you what Vegas thinks of Seattle.

Key Numbers – Talking It Over/Under

This season Seattle is exactly 8-8 on the over/under totals while the Rams are 6-9-1, with that push coming in last week’s game with the Chargers (some books had it as 40.5, some had it at 41).

Looking at 41.5 points for this game, Seattle has gone over that number eight times, while Ram games have gone over 41.5 six times. In the last four games the Seahawks have only scored 70 points.

Statistically Speaking

Seattle’s passing offense ranks ninth in the NFL, the Rams are 25th. Neither team is good at running the ball, Seattle ranks 18th in rushing, the Rams sit back in 28th.

The defensive numbers favor the Rams. The Rams rushing defense has risen to 10th in the NFL, while the Seahawks are third to last. Against the pass, Seattle ranks 18th and the Rams are 22nd.

Seattle’s offense scores 24.3 points a game, the Rams score 18.2. Defensively, the Seahawks have allowed 24.1 a game and the Rams 22.8.

History Lesson

Seattle leads the all-time series 26-24. Here’s a look at the last five meetings:

Week 13 2022: Seahawks 27, Rams 23 – John Wolford got the start for the Rams with Matthew Stafford on the shelf and he threw two picks, but the Rams led 23-20 with three minutes left on a TD run by Cam Akers. Geno Smith marched Seattle down the field hitting DK Metcalf on an eight-yard TD pass with 36 seconds left to win it. Smith finished with a career high 367 yards.

Week 15 2021: Rams 20, Seahawks 10 – This was the COVID game that got postponed to Tuesday. Stafford threw two TD passes to Cooper Kupp and went over 50,000 yards in his career (counting the playoffs). Kupp also had his 10th straight game with over 90 receiving yards.

Week 5 2021: Rams 26, Seahawks 17 – Russell Wilson hurt his finger in the second half when it smashed into Aaron Donald’s helmet and had to come out. It was the beginning of the end of his Seattle career. Robert Woods had 12 catches for 150 yards for the Rams, but LA needed a late pick from Nick Scott to hold on.

Wild Card 2021: Rams 30, Seahawks 20 – This is one of the weirdest games in recent Rams history. Wolford started because Jared Goff dislocated his thumb two weeks earlier. Then Wolford got hurt and Goff had to come back in. So the Rams ran Akers all day. Akers went for 131 yards and a TD. Darious Williams had a pick six. The Rams got all over Wilson who only threw for 174.

Week 16 2020: Seahawks 20, Rams 9 – And just how did Goff dislocate his thumb? In this game with the NFC West title at stake. Wilson threw a late TD pass. Seattle’s defense had a goal line stand and the Seahawks won first division title since 2016. The Rams would get playoff revenge though.

The X Factor

It’s all about pride at this point for the Rams. They have nothing to play for, while Seattle needs to win to have a shot at reaching the playoffs. This is a true test of the Rams veteran leadership. It’s been a long time since they’ve been in a situation where the game is meaningless. Will they come to play or go through the motions?

Rams vs. Seahawks Score Prediction

I do believe the Rams will play hard for a little while, maybe a half. Bobby Wagner will surely be psyched up to be back in Seattle and I think the Rams defense will hang in there, but slowly Seattle will take charge. I can’t see the Rams offense scoring a lot of points, the execution and talent just isn’t there. Geno Smith and Seattle have too much to play for. I see it Seattle 31, Rams 13. The bad news for Seattle though is that Green Bay is going to beat Detroit.
