2022 has been a great year for Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay. In February, he won his first Super Bowl. And last weekend, he officially tied the knot.
Now, when you’re the popular head coach of an NFL football team, narrowing down the guest is probably pretty tricky. Unfortunately, Rams receiver Odell Beckham Jr., didn’t make the cut. But that didn’t deter Beckham from paying tribute to the happily married couple.
Instead, OBJ channeled Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson in the hit movie “Wedding Crashers,” and crashed McVay’s wedding. But don’t be mistaken, McVay was thrilled to see the wide receiver who played a significant role in helping the Rams get to the promised land.
“I love Odell and so only in Odell’s fashion could he be the wedding crasher at our wedding,” McVay said on the “I AM ATHLETE,” podcast. “So O showed up, crashed the wedding and I loved it.”
Some actual Beckham-Rams news
McVay did request something of Beckham though, and it would probably serve as a really nice wedding gift.
“You crashed my wedding, you re-sign with the Rams then, man.”
McVay has publicly gushed about Beckham, who is coming off a torn ACL suffered in last year’s Super Bowl. The embattled wide receiver joined the Rams in mid-November after being cut by the Cleveland Browns. He caught 27 passes for 305 yards and five touchdowns in eight regular season games with the team. But his biggest impact came during the postseason, where he caught 25 balls for 316 yards and two scores.
Beckham was on pace for a big day in the Super Bowl, having caught two passes for 52 yards and a touchdown early in the game before hurting his knee. Los Angeles’ offense struggled mightily following his exit.
Beckham might have to take a discount in order to return to L.A., as the team just committed more cap room to make Aaron Donald the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league. However, Beckham’s market hasn’t materialized this offseason as teams appear poised to wait until he’s close to full health.
Beckham’s return to the Rams would give McVay a tremendous receiving trio. Cooper Kupp is a stud, and the Rams added veteran receiver Allen Robinson during free agency.
Los Angeles is clearly focused on the here and now, so adding Beckham back into the fold would only add more fuel to the fire in their pursuit of back-to-back titles.
Besides, Beckham probably owes McVay a favor now.
